The Vibe Check (What to Expect)
Walking into a boxing gym for the first time is intimidating. We get it. But the second you step through our doors, that goes away. We don't care what shape you are in, and there is no ego on our mats.
When you arrive, head straight to the front desk. Let the coach know it's your first day. They will give you a quick tour, help you get your hands wrapped, and show you the bags. You're part of the team the second you arrive.
The Gear (What to Wear)
- Clothing: Wear comfortable athletic gear. T-shirts, tank tops, shorts, or leggings. You will sweat, so dress appropriately.
- Shoes: Clean, indoor athletic shoes. No boots or street shoes on the mats to keep the training area sanitary.
- Water: Bring a water bottle. Hydration is critical.
Do I Need Gloves?
No. If it's your first time, we have loaner gloves you can use for the session. However, we highly recommend you purchase your own set of Hand Wraps for wrist support and hygiene. If you don't have wraps, we sell them at the front desk for a few bucks.
How To Wrap Your Hands
Wrapping your hands properly prevents injury and keeps your wrists locked. Check out this 2-minute tutorial so you know the basics before you come in:
Boxing Glossary
Don't panic when the coach calls out combos. Here is the basic terminology:
- Jab (1): The lead hand punch. Fast and straight.
- Cross (2): The rear hand punch. Thrown with power.
- Hook (3): A sweeping punch coming from the side.
- Stance: Staggered feet, hands up protecting your face. If you are right-handed, your left foot is forward (Orthodox).
